6 Easy Steps to Remove Laptop LCD Screen – Compaq Presario

We are going to outline the steps needed to remove laptop lcd screen on your Compaq Presario.  The tools we will need is a phillips head screw-driver and a sharp object to lift up rubber coverings.

First we will open the laptop and take a look at the LCD screen in an opened state.  Take not of 6 rubber coverings, they are very small and the same color as the frame on the notebook LCD screen.  Use your sharp object to remove all 6 of these rubber casings.  Place them in a safe place you will have to put them back on later.

Get the phillips screw driver out and start taking out all 6 screws in the 6 holes we just uncovered.  Take the screws out and place them with the rubber casings that we took out already.

Now take the frame off that is now not being held on by any screws any longer.  Be careful when you take the frame off your Compaq Presario LCD screen.  The frame will start to feel loose as you go slowly around taking it off little by little.

So the fame has just come off and we need to point out and note a few key things now that we see.  Take note of the 2 hinges near the base of the LCD screen we are removing.  Take note of the thicker wire that is near the left hinge, that is the video cable that we need to unplug soon.  To the right of that is the 2 wires, they are the inverter wires.  We will disconnect them soon also.  The wires run from the right side tot he left on the laptop base LCD screen.

Now we need to get the actual LCD screen dislodged from the back cover.  We need to do this by taking 2 screws out.  The two screws are located near the top of the LCD screen on the sides.  Get the screw driver out and fold the laptop down a big and begin to unscrew both screws.

Next, remember the wires we identified earlier?  We are going to disconnect them from the computer, specifically from the Compaq Presario’s mother board.  The video cable has a connecting plug so unplug that and remove any tape that also might be holding it on.  Do the same for the 2 inverter wires, remember there are 2 wires there, do it carefully.

Finally, if you get confused by anything in this process stop what you are doing and consult with a computer repair specialist.  Look back here for mroe information to remove lcd laptop screen on a Compaq Presario.

How to Diagnose a Dim or Dark Laptop Lcd Screen

Ok , you are using your laptop normally and everything is working fine. Then one day you turn on your laptop computer and you’re not sure , is it me or am I still sleeping ? The screen on my laptop is not working. What do I do now. Well the good news is that it could have been worse. Now to go about solving the problem there are a few things to determine to see what the problem is.

The first thing I would advise to be done is to check your laptop with an external monitor to make sure that it is not the video chip that went bad. So connect your laptop to an external monitor and see if you get a picture (you might have to press the fn and one of the f1 , f2 , f3 etc….keys together to switch the output to an external display , If you get a picture on the external monitor you know it is not the motherboard , (whew, was getting scared already). If you don’t get a picture on the external monitor make sure it is plugged in correctly and that you pressed the correct keys to have the output signal go to the external monitor. If you are sure you did all of the above steps correctly , then shut off the computer and try pressing down on the keyboard while powering up the laptop and see if you get an image. Sometimes if a computer has a loose connection between the GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) and the motherboard it will result in no video or flaky video , so try pressing down on the keyboard while powering on and try see if you get video. If you get a video output then you will know that it is a flaky video chip and that will have to be fixed.

Now back to if you got a picture on an external display. Once you got a picture on the external monitor and established that it is not the video chip or motherboard you will have to try to determine if it is the lcd screen itself or if it is the inverter. The inverter is a small electronic board that controls the voltage that is sent to the backlight (the light bulb of the laptop screen) of the lcd screen. If the inverter breaks or dies then no voltage gets to the backlight resulting in no video output signal to the display. In my experience working as a technician for www.nylaptopparts.com I see that most of the times it is the inverter that is the problem and that is a pretty easy fix , you just have to get the correct inverter that supplies the right amount of voltage and you will be back in business. But in some instances it is the backlight (light bulb) that went , and to repair this is more difficult and more time consuming. One way to see if it is the inverter , is to test the two prongs of the inverter with a voltage meter and see if they are giving off the correct voltage (please read up more on this method , as inverters have high voltage output , so you have to know what you are doing , so I strongly advise to read up on this more prior to doing it , you can read more about this method here ; More Info) Another simpler way is to shine a flashlight on the lcd , if you see a faint image then in most cases it is the backlight that needs to be replaced. If you don’t see an image even when shining the flashlight then it is most likely the inverter and it should be an easy fix.

On a last note if you determined that it is the backlight that is faulty , although it is fixable it requires more time and experience then just replacing the inverter , and if one is not experienced he/she can damage the lcd screen itself as well , so generally if the backlight is faulty either have a laptop repair shop replace the backlight , but only one who has experience. Or another option is to buy a new lcd panel and install it either yourself or proffesionally. Generally it is not very difficult to replace a lcd panel but there are some models that are more difficult so try to ask a laptop repair shop about your specific model

We sell lcd panels as well as other laptop parts and might be able to be of help so you can give us a try by going to this website www.nylaptopparts.com .

Laptop Lcd Screen

Laptop LCD Screens come in different resolutions. Resolutions are the number of pixels per inch that a screen is able to display. Most screens sold today have TFT active matrix technology. The more pixels or higher the resolution a screen is the crisper the image. In addition, higher resolution screens allow more of a picture to be viewable.
Once a student came to me and asked “I want to upgrade size of my screen” It was little funny, I replied him “No, the screen size cannot be upgraded”
and if you want to upgrade resolution it depends on the type of video card contained in your laptop and the availability of a compatible LCD Screen of higher resolution, the screen resolution may be upgraded.
If your laptop screen displays lines ?
If you are observing Horizontal or vertical lines on your laptop screen then this means that you need to replace your laptop screen. But sometimes it can also be due to a defective video cable or video card. To find out the actual cause you need to connect your laptop to an external monitor if the lines don’t disappear it definitely means you need to get a new laptop screen.
What if display is dim?
Usually dim display is because of a problem with the inverter or by the backlight (screen). Normally it’s the inverter that causes a dim display, therefore we recommend that you replace the inverter first, if the problem still exists then you would need a new screen because there might be a problem with the backlight of the screen.
You can use different laptop screens with your laptop. Because normally the laptop manufacturer don’t produce there own screens and they use screens from different manufacturers in the same laptop model.
